Randolph Fish and Game Club Bird Training Clinic Info

Saturday, April 27, 8am-4pm

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Expect to have a fun-filled day of working with your dog and meeting other like-minded handlers.

The day will begin with a handlers meeting at 8 a.m., during which participants will be divided into different groups. Each group will be assigned a lead who will help answer any questions and guide you and your group through the day's events.

The events for the day will be a field search for planted birds and water retrieves of bumpers at a location near the club.

The field search will involve you and your dog conducting a field walk looking for planted chukar partridge. During the field search, the volunteer will be able to fire blanks to simulate a hunting scenario.

IF YOU HAVE A YOUNG DOG THAT HAS NOT EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE, PLEASE LET YOUR GROUP LEADER KNOW.

The water retrieve will simulate a hunting scenario or help you introduce your dog to water with the use of training bumpers.

While waiting your turn to run in the field or retrieve at the water, this is an excellent opportunity to work on heel commands and place training with your dog.

Training will proceed rain or shine. We cannot always predict the weather conditions for any given hunt, and we believe training in all weather conditions is critical.

Lunch will be provided around 1 pm; donations would be greatly appreciated.

WHAT TO BRING:

Bring any training equipment you would normally use to train your dog, i.e. e-collar, check cord, leash, etc.

Bird Bag or box for your birds to be secured while waiting for your turn in the field.

All handlers must wear hunter orange during the training events a hat or vest is sufficient.

Plenty of water for you and your dog, as well as sunscreen.

Depending on the day's weather conditions, you may want to have a pop-up tent available for you and your dog.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

We will not train your dog, but we will offer advice and support to help you train your dog on your own.

Any handler observed mistreating or abusing their dog will be barred from the event and future events hosted by the Randolph Fish and Game Club and its properties. The Executive Committee will review allegations of mistreatment or abuse before barment from future events and properties.
